Behind The Scenes | NYFW: Marchesa SS13 Hair by Renato Campora
Marchesa SS13 showed in an unconventional venue this season- Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central Station. The majestic gold chandeliers casted an angelic halo on the exquisite collection inspired by India. Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig sent ornate, intricately draped and embroidered dresses down the pink marble runway. To achieve the full effect of this ravishing look, lead hairstylist Renato Campora created a sculpted style complete with elaborate mini braids that interlocked in shapes that resembled hearts. The complete look was graphic and shiny.
To create the look, Renato started with slightly damp hair and brushed the hair towards the back of the head. Fekkai’s Coiff Bouffant Lifting and Texturizing Spray Gel was applied throughout the hair and the hair was then blow-dried until smooth and flat. The hair was separated into three sections by dividing the hair from the top of the middle part down to the top of the ear on both sides. Fekkai Coiff Sheer Hold Hair Spray was sprayed onto the middle section to add shine, then the section was tied into a tight ponytail at the nape of the neck.
The sections on the right and left were each separated into a top and bottom section (see above) and braided tightly. The two top braids from each side were then criss-crossed over the ponytail and pinned under. The two bottom braids were pinned in a “U”-formation, meeting at the top of the ponytail. The ends were wrapped around the ponytail and pinned. Finally, the middle section of each braid was pinned up to the side of the head creating a 90 degree angle.
The style was finished by teasing the ponytail and spraying it with Fekkai Coiff Sheer Hold Hair Spray, then with Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Sheer Shine Mist and smoothed out with the hands. Look how beautifully these sleek braids translated on the runway, in perfect harmony with the rich colors and glittering beads decorating the couture gowns:
