Behind The Scenes | NYFW: Calla SS13 Hair by Owen Gould

The finished braid

Calla Haynes showed her latest collection at Milk Studios. True to the Calla signature aesthetic, this collection featured bold prints and cuts exuding a sense of relaxed luxury. This collection was inspired by nature, and the models were made to look as if they were wandering around the woods all afternoon. Lead hairstylist Owen Gould conveyed that sensibility using Moroccan Oil products to create bold and feminine styles.

The look

To create the purposefully imperfect and tousled looks, Owen created loose fishtail braids and tied them up in a chignon to the side. According to Owen, the preparation process for the show was a breeze. “The test the day before went smoothly and Moroccan Oil provided me with a fantastic group of assistants for the presentation,” he said.

Among all of the presentations that night on the 8th floor, Calla stood out the most with its flirty ingenuity. The girls chatted with one another freely which showed off the hairstyles from every angle.

As for how Owen survives fashion week, he answered “a good night’s sleep is crucial to my mental health during fashion week. That, and a good glass of wine when it’s all over.”
