From the iconic covers of The Face magazine in the late eighties to the supermodels of the nineties, Kay Montano has played a pivotal role in creating some of the industry’s most notable looks, many of which continue to be referenced today and establish her as one of the industry’s most distinguished makeup artists.
Over the years, Kay has worked with the fashion industry’s most influential photographers including Bruce Weber, Steven Meisel, Helmut Newton, Mario Sorrenti, Patrick Demarchelier and Mario Testino, collaborating on titles such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and W magazine. Alongside this, she boasts an impressive list of advertising clients including Ralph Lauren, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Armani and Chanel.
Additionally, Kay works with some of the film industry’s biggest actresses including Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Connelly, Rachel Weisz and Thandie Newton, with whom she formed a longstanding relationship with when she designed the makeup for her films, RocknRolla and W. Today, they’ve teamed together on an innovative project, ThandieKay.com, which is a site that will become a multi-media platform with retail for WOC.
Kay has always been passionate about using her platform to empower women. During her career, she has contributed to a number of titles including The Sunday Times Style Magazine and The Guardian Newspaper, as well as The Daily Mail, who she collaborated with for three years on a weekly beauty column.
With a career that has spanned decades, Kay is reputably one of the industry’s leading makeup artists. She’s known for creating cover girls and making A-listers red carpet ready, but it’s her innovative approach and adaptability that distinguishes her as a truly remarkable artist.
Kay currently lives in London and is presently under contract with Chanel in the U.K.
