Makeup artist Sarah Tanno always strives to attune her unique perspectives to her work. From translating ambitious artistic concepts as well as perfecting incredibly clean beauty looks, to heavier goth / theater and glamour moments – Sarah takes true pride in expanding possibilities on the human canvas.
It’s Sarah’s iconic collaborations with Lady Gaga as her personal makeup artist that have catapulted this very ethos to the international stage. Together they have explored reverential makeup traditions and built upon them – creating looks that are soft and ethereal, glamorous and scintillating, haunting and unique. Sarah was also responsible for conceptualizing/doing Gaga’s makeup as the Countess on American Horror Story Hotel. For this critically acclaimed collaboration, Sarah was awarded a 2016 Creative Arts Emmy as well as Make-up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Award.
Sarah can adjust to any environment with ease, making her a favorite in high pressure situations. She’s worked on major beauty campaigns, countless commercials and music videos, television & film, press junkets, editorials, red carpets and world stadium tours.
Her easy-going attitude and ability to make every woman feel like the most gorgeous version of herself have also established a loyal client base with talents Gigi Hadid, Dakota Johnson, Suki Waterhouse and Michelle Monaghan. She’s also worked with leading photographers Steven Klein, Karl Lagerfeld, Inez & Vinoodh, Ellen Von Unwerth, Terry Richardson, Collier Schorr, Chadwick Tyler, Rugh Hogben and Paolo Roversi to name a few. Editorial credits can be seen in Harper’s Bazaar, V, Elle, L’ Officiel Homme, Wonderland, T Magazine and Dazed & Confused.
In 2017, Marc Jacobs Beauty named her their Global Artistry Ambassador.
Sarah’s love for art, fashion, & music continue to be the foundational tenements she’s built her career on.
