Maki Hasagawa is a makeup artist, originally from Tokyo, Japan. After seeing her first fashion show in Paris, Maki knew that she wanted to begin a career as a makeup artist. She attended the Fromhand Cosmetology School in Tokyo and upon completion, moved to New York City in 2002.
In New York City, Maki began her career assisting respected makeup artists such as Sandy Linter, Daniel Martin, and Frank B., which offered her a diverse and solid foundation in the world of editorial and commercial artistry.
Maki is recognized in the industry for her ability to highlight a woman’s natural beauty with clean, glowing and beautiful skin. Her enthusiasm and inspiration for her work comes from the runway, her travels and her personal drawings and paintings. She continues to work with photographers such as Terry Richardson, Cass Bird, Cedric Buchet, Jason Kibbler, Hugh Lippe, Santiago & Mauricio and Kenneth Willardt. Her clients include Rag & Bone, Maiyet, Express, J. Crew, Shopbop and Old Navy, among many others. She has worked with a variety of domestic and international publications, among them: Vogue, i-D, 10, Harper’s Bazaar and Marie Claire.
